Science, Falsely So Called

One
of the most common statements made by Bible compromisers about the
Bible is that it can't be treated as true in the way that a science
book is, and of course they are quite right, though not in the way that
they mean. The Bible has been challenged by doubters for over 4000
years and has never been shown to contain a factual error. The same
cannot be said for science books, especially when they deal with
stories about evolution.
Over 100 years ago Ernst Haeckel faked some pictures of human and animal embryos to show their imagined evolutionary similarities. Even though these pictures were known to be fakes, they were used for over 100 years in science books. The Piltdown Man was a hoax from England that was presented as scientific proof of ape to human evolution for 40 years before it was unmasked. The Nebraska Man, another example of a so called "missing" link between ape and human, received world wide attention in the 1920's until the whole story was shown to be nothing more than imagination built upon the tooth of a pig. One of the best known dinosaurs, brontosaurus, has been revealed to be a hoax, an amalgam of two separate dinosaurs, diplodocus and apatosaurus, that was presented to the world as a one dinosaur.
But these kinds of hoaxes are not just limited to the past, examples of this kind of evolutionary imagination masquerading as science still go on today. Three recent examples of this kind of nonsense are the claims about Lucy, a so-called missing link, distant planets and feathered dinosaurs.
Lucy is a fossil classified as an australopithecine, meaning southern ape, which was discovered by a team led by Donald Johansen and claimed to be an ape to human ancestor. It was presented to the world as a single individual that was supposed to be able to walk upright because of the shape of the knee. Several years later it was revealed that the original skeleton hadn't included a knee, so the team kept searching until they found a knee, several miles away and several hundred feet down in the ground. This composite creature has been extensively studied and found to be virtually a perfect match for modern day pygmy chimpanzees.
The claims about the existence of planets outside of this Solar System have been widely publicized in both the scientific and popular media, but the fact is that no planet outside of this Solar System has ever been seen. While extra-Solar planets may exist, the claims about them are based on irregularities observed in distant stars' rotations. Considering the track record of the past and other possible explanations for the stars irregular rotations, it is truly arrogant to state as scientific fact that extra-Solar planets exist.
The archaeoraptor is an example of how desperation and imagination can cause the people involved to end up looking really foolish.
"There probably has never been a fossil with a sadder history than this one (archaeoraptor), " says Storrs L. Olson of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.
The archaeoraptor is an example, much like Piltdown Man, of a hoax swallowed whole by many evolutionists out of desperation. It was supposed to be a link showing a connection between dinosaurs and birds. "We can now say that birds are theropods (meat eating dinosaurs) just as confidently as we say that humans are mammals." National Geographic, November 1999, page 108. It was revealed a few months after this quote was printed that the archaeoraptor fossil was a fake manufactured in China for gullible fossil collectors. But the above quote, based on this hoax, is another example of the kind of "science" we are told by Bible compromisers to hold as superior to the Bible.
While true science never contradicts the Bible, many stories masquerading as science do. Whether false stories in science books are the result of deliberate hoaxes or overactive imaginations, fallible human minds, especially those committed to the false religion of evolution, will often get it wrong. That is one reason science books have to be constantly updated, while the Bible, God's Word, has stood the test of time.
