The Dating Game
A
popular myth promoted in education and the media is that radioactive
dating methods, so-called "absolute dating", can be used to establish
an ancient age for fossils and the earth. The facts are quite
different.
All dating methods are based on untestable, unverifiable assumptions.
The first assumption being that the rate of aging is constant, the
second assumption is that there has been no contamination of the
sample being tested and the third assumption is that
it can be known what the conditions were like in the beginning. None of
these assumptions can ever be scientifically proven, but the "absolute
dates" that are invented using them are still presented as fact to a
credulous public.
While evolutionists like to present "absolute dates" to the public as
reliable, they don't even believe in these dates themselves.
"In conventional interpretation of K-Ar (potassium-argon) age data, it
is common to discard ages which are substantially too
high or too low compared with the rest of the group
or with other available data such as the geological
time scale. The discrepancies between the rejected and the accepted are
arbitrarily attributed to excess or loss of argon." (emphasis added) A.
Hayatsu, "K-Ar Isochron Age of the North Mountain Basalt, Nova Scotia,"
Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, Vol. 16, p. 974.
In other words, if you don't like the answers, ignore them. This is what evolutionists like to pretend is science.
One of the more egregious examples of the evolutionists' willingness to
ignore their own dating methods is seen in what is known as Skull 1470.
Discovered in Kenya in 1967 by paleontologist Richard Leakey, it had
the appearance of a modern skull. The problem for the evolutionists is
that the skull was found in a layer of rock initially dated at over 200
million years old. (F.J. Fitch and J.A. Miller, 'Radioisotopic Age
Determinations of Lake Rudolf Artifact Site', Nature 226, April 18,
1970, p. 226. This "absolute date" could not be allowed to stand,
because it was contrary to the evolutionary story that modern humans
only evolved about 1 million years ago.
So what happened in this case is what always happens when the
evolutionary story is challenged, Fitch and Miller manipulated the data
to lower their age estimate to 2.9 million years old. With one stroke
they made 200 million years just disappear. But 2.9 million years was
still too much, so more data manipulation was required. Using the
imaginary rate of pig evolution as a base, the date was lowered again,
this time to 1.88 million years old (Donald Johanson et al, Lucy: The
Beginnings of Humankind , 1981, p. 240.) This date was one that could
be made to fit into the evolutionary story, so the pig date was
accepted by the evolutionist establishment.
In the controversy over Skull 1470 the so-called "absolute
dating" methods were tossed out without hesitation in
favor of the pig dates, because the "absolute dates" contradicted the
evolutionist story. As always happens with evolutionists, when there is
a conflict between their religion of evolution and anything else, the
religion of evolution always wins.
The fact is there is no way to scientifically date anything. The only
reliable dating method that exists is historical records and the most
reliable history book ever written is the Bible. The Bible gives us
verifiable historical records by which we can accurately date events of
the past.
