Why It Matters! Go to the Ant
One of the proofs of the divine authorship of the Bible is that it has scientific information that was not known to the people at the time the Bible was written. One example of this is with the lowly ant. About a year ago I read the story of an atheistic evolutionist who upon reading Proverbs 6:6 realized that the Bible was a divinely inspired book and became a Christian and a Creationist. Why did this happen? Because Proverbs 6:6 tells us to “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise”. The significance of this verse is that it identifies the ant as female. All the ants you see outside of the nest are sterile females, a fact that science did not discover until the 19th century. So how did the author of Proverbs know this? Only the Creator of the Universe and of the ant could have known this 3000 years ago and told it to the author of Proverbs. God has sprinkled these nuggets of scientific knowledge throughout the Bible.
Another nugget of truth is in Job 26:7. It tells us that “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” When Job was written about 4000 years ago the Greeks were teaching that the earth was an immovable base and the heavens were a crystal hemisphere that the stars were stuck in. Hindus were teaching that the earth rested on the back of an elephant that stood on a turtle that swam in the eternal sea. We now know that indeed the earth hangs on nothing except the invisible leash of gravity. How could the author of Job know this, the answer is simply that the Creator told him so.
The Bible has many similar proofs both scientific and prophetic for those who are looking for the truth.
