Why It Matters! The Age of the Earth
The age of the Earth is the dividing line when it comes to trusting the authority of the Bible. Evolutionists write and speak as though the issue of age has been scientifically settled, but such is not the case. What has really happened is that the age issue has simply been ignored, even though evolutionists know that their so-called scientific dating methods have been totally discredited over and over. This fact is simply ignored and the dates are used as though they actually meant something.
In every single case in which the historical age of a rock is known, the evolutionists dating methods always come out wrong, every single time.
Evolutionists blithely ignore all of the data that shows the unreliability of their dating methods because if their dates stop being believed, then their whole house of cards, evolutionism, will simply collapse.
What is perhaps the most ironic part of the whole thing is how many Christians have tossed out trust in the Bible because they have bought into the evolutionist’s thoroughly discredited dating methods. Whether these compromising Christians call themselves Progressive Creationists, Genesis Gap believers or theistic evolutionists, they have one thing in common; they put the fallible and discredited ideas of men ahead of the clear words of God. Over the centuries the Bible has been tested again and again and has been found to be true every time. It is the height of folly to reject the truth of the Bible to embrace the foolishness of the evolutionists.
While rejecting the imaginary dates of the evolutionists is the correct thing to do, is there any scientific evidence for a young earth? The answer is yes! Although there is no scientific way to prove the age of anything, there are two big measurements that do indicate that the earth is not billions of years old. One is the amount of salt in the oceans. If the oceans had started out totally salt free, they would have reached their present level of saltiness from river runoff in a few million years. This does not mean that the earth is millions of years old, but it does put an upper limit on the earth’s age. Billions of years of salt being added to the oceans would have made them as salty as the Great Salt Lake in Utah or the Dead Sea in Israel. The second is the earth’s magnetic field. The earth’s magnetic field is constantly decaying with a half-life of 1400 years. When you back up that decay rate into the past it would indicate that the earth could not have had life on it over 10,000 years ago.
The problem with depending upon these dates is the same as any other age dating system, they cannot be verified. The undeniable fact is simply this; there is no scientific way to determine the age of the earth or anything else. We need to put our faith in the testimony of the only eyewitness who was there, God, and believe what He tells us in His Bible.

In 1801 the Hualalai volcano in Hawaii erupted, 160 years later
evolutionists got some of the lava from this eruption and did tests on
it that are supposed to show its age. One of tests called
rubidium-strontium came up with an age for the lava of 700 million years
old. A second test called potassium-argon came up with a date of 2.5
billion years old. Both dates came from lava that was less than 200
years old when it was tested.
