Why It Matters! What Science is and What it is not
Evolutionists routinely wrap themselves in the mantle of science whenever they make their pronouncements regarding evolutionism, because evolutionists know that most people believe that science is both a powerful and objective tool for discovering truth. But like any tool, it is only as good as the person who is using it.
Scientific inquiry, when it follows the fundamental rules of true science, is as close as human can get to a perfect technique for finding out the truth about God's Creation. The fact is that Christians have been in the forefront of what is known as the Scientific Revolution. There are three things that must be true if any genuine scientific inquiry is to occur. These three things are, it must be observable, you can't study what you can't see. It must be capable of being scientifically tested and the scientific testing must be capable of being repeated. If all three of these things are not possible, it is not possible to study something scientifically. This does not mean that the question isn't true, it just means that it can't be proven to be scientifically true.
Evolutionists in their zeal to promote their religion of evolutionism ignore these three necessities in order to make their stories sound more plausible. Evolutionism is not science, it is not even a scientific theory.
One mistakes that some people make is to say that "evolution is only a theory". In science a theory is a very powerful thing, because a true scientific theory is a well-tested hypothesis. The key criteria being that it must be a well-tested hypothesis. Evolution doesn't even qualify as a hypothesis, because a hypothesis is a scientifically testable guess. Evolution doesn't qualify as science by any scientific standard. What people need to understand is while scientific inquiry is a powerful tool to find the truth, it is also a very limited tool. What it cannot do is to test a historical event, because that event is already past. While the evidence from a historical event can be tested, inevitably there will be some interpretation mixed in with the facts. For example dinosaur fossils are found all over the world, that is a scientific fact, but the real question is what do these fossils mean?
Evolutionists interpret these fossils as evidence of life over a period of millions of years. Creationists interpret these same fossils as evidence of a massive burial because of a worldwide Flood. The real question then is which story do the fossils best fit. While true science can indicate which interpretation is more likely to be true, it cannot prove either one to be true. This is an excellent example of both the power and limitations of true science.
