Why It Matters - Making The Right Choices
One of the less pleasant requirements of my job is reading things written by atheistic evolutionists and those who think that they can find some compromise between the Bible and evolutionism. Without doubt the saddest things I ever read are the sermons by those clergy who participate in evolution Sunday.
Evolution Sunday was started several years ago as a rallying point for those who identify themselves as Christian and who also promote the religion of evolutionism. What is interesting is that in their sermons they use both bad science and faulty Bible reasoning. One of them, Pastor Paul Kottke of University Park United Methodist Church of Denver, CO, even trots out the Stanley Miller experiment of 1953 as evidence supporting evolutionism, even though evolutionists today acknowledge how faulty and useless it was. Apparently Kottke hasn’t actually read anything about evolutionism for the past 20 years. It is more than a little ironic that Kottke states that more people died in the 20th century than in any other century in history, without going on to state that almost of them were killed by the disciples of evolutionism.
All of the sermons that I read contain two themes, first that the stories in the Bible can only be understood as allegories not as true history. Second that evolutionism is such a well-established scientific fact that no intelligent person should doubt it, even though there are millions of knowledgeable people and thousands of scientists with PhD’s who do. One of the pastors, Byron Shafer even made the absurd statement that no Intelligent Design articles are published in evolutionist science journal because of their lack of scientific credibility. The fact is that any articles that may even hint at ID are summarily rejected without even being reviewed. Either Shafer is incredibly naïve, totally ignorant or he is being deliberately deceptive.
All of the pastors promoting evolution Sunday share a common bias, rather than even attempting to take the Bible for what it says, they rejected it because it is not acceptable to those to whom they look to for approval, the secular elites.
Shafer goes on to compare his compromising the Bible with evolution with the actions of the great reformers like Martin Luther and John Calvin. What Luther and Calvin did though was to goes against the intellectual elites of their time and go back to the Bible for God’s answers to the questions of the day. Perhaps if Shafer and the other compromisers were to follow Luther and Calvin they would come to the point where they would begin to take God at His Word.
The compromisers all say that God used evolution as His means of creation. Kottke states that “for those of us who are people of faith, we can boldly affirm that evolution reflects the flow of God’s creative Spirit”. This of course leads to several questions, one of them being if God is capable of using evolution to bring about the world we see around, why couldn’t He use His creative Spirit to tell us He did so? Another thing about evolutionist stories is that they tell us of a world filled with a massive amount of pain, suffering and death and these pastors want people to believe that this was God’s preferred method of creation.
What Bible compromisers like those participating in evolution Sunday did was to make a choice. They could have chosen to use God’s Word as their standard for measuring truth, instead they chose to follow the meandering path of the anti-God religion of evolutionism. Despite what these pastors and other such compromisers say, there is no scientific imperative to accept evolutionism. Evolutionists themselves have discredited every thing that these compromisers use to support evolutionism, from Darwin’s Origin of the Species to Stanley Miller’s experiment.
All of us throughout our lives make choices all the time and we are responsible for those choices. In the book of Joshua, Joshua says And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. All of us have to choose whom we will serve, the gods of this world or the Creator of the heaven and the earth.
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 1Peter 3:15.
Evolution Sunday is about the lowest that Bible compromisers have ever sunk, using their positions of trust in their churches to promote the anti-God religion of evolutionism. There has been an appropriate response to evolution Sunday and that is Creation Weekend. It was started about a year ago to help churches more effectively counter evolutionism. speciation provides evolution with experimental evidence – evidence that creationism does not have”. The fact that a genetically downhill mutation is considered “experimental evidence for evolution” graphically demonstrates the scientific bankruptcy of evolutionism. Creationists have never disputed that animals, big and small, are capable of sufficient variation to produce animals that can be given different names. What this experiment does not do is to give any true support to those who are seeking real evidence for evolution that would be capable of turning fish into philosophers or worms into women.
