The Earth is the Lord’s and the Fullness Thereof
In the June 2006 edition of the evolutionist magazine Discover is an article on space flight called “Are We Trapped on Earth? Why Cosmic Rays Could Prevent Us From Leaving”. The article tells how that even if a rocket ship could be built that could make it to Mars, the astronauts would likely be dead before it got there.
It turns out that this earth is even more unique than had been previously understood. For years, science fiction writers have presented the idea that if only we could make rockets good enough to travel in space, we could go tooling around the galaxy with no problem. Unfortunately for future deep space astronauts, such has turned out not to be the case. The most immediate danger is radiation. The Sun puts out deadly radiation that can cause cancer and numerous other deadly diseases. This radiation easily penetrates the hull of spaceships. Brief exposure to cosmic radiation has not been shown to be too damaging to astronauts, but the years it would take for astronauts to reach Mars would probably kill them, if not on the way there, than by the time they got back home. The second problem that astronauts would face in space is weightlessness. Long term weightlessness causes osteoporosis, a loss of calcium and weakening of the bones. Astronauts that have been in space for months are generally so weak on their return to earth, that they have to be helped to walk when they first return to earth, but who would be there to help them when they land on Mars?
Whether a manned flight to Mars will ever be tried is, of course, unknown. What is known from the research of spaceflight is how truly unique and exquisitely designed this earth is. On earth we are protected by the earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere. Gravity keeps our muscles and bones strong. When the facts from science are properly understood, we can appreciate all the more how the earth is designed for us and we are designed to live here.
