Why It Matters! Nonsense Masquerading as Science
We get mail from around the world. I recently received an email from Richard at the University of Sheffield in England. Describing himself as a Christian and a theistic evolutionist, he wrote that the lack of 2, 3 or 4 celled animals was not a problem for evolutionism, that one-celled animals could just come together to form a multi-celled creature. That, of course, is nonsense, but it is the kind of nonsense that masquerades as science and leads some people to think that God could have used evolution as His means of creation. He went on to write, “In my view, our ultimate aim shouldn’t be to try and discredit everyone else’s beliefs but to demonstrate that how God created the Earth isn’t the most important thing about Christianity”.
As so often happens when believers in evolutionism, theistic or secular, get a scientifically defensible challenge to evolution, they don’t respond to it, they just look for another point of attack. Such was the case with Richard, because he then came back at me with the question of how much change would be possible in God's Creation? Richard thought that any limits would be arbitrary, and even brought up the tired, old “God of the Gaps” concept. Richard is like so many who have been evolutionized in their thinking and really don’t know how much scientific evidence there is that supports Creation. As the science of genetics shows, limited variation within a kind is possible, but genetic research has also unquestionably shown that a change from one kind to another is impossible. Creationists don’t need to use a “God of the gaps” scenario, what we have to do is to show how the God of the evidence is supported by all of the true scientific evidence.
As with so many people who describe themselves as Christian, Richard doesn’t know what the most important thing about Christianity is, and that is to take God seriously in all that He tells us in His Bible. It is meaningless to say that God could have used evolution to create when He clearly tells us in Genesis how He did create.
How effective evolutionists can be against the unprepared can be seen in the following quote from an evolutionist blog. “Just over a year ago, I would have said with a straight face that the earth was 6000 years old, there were no transitional forms, and that evolution was just a theory. Your blog did a fine job of setting me straight. Keep it up.” The writer of this quote and Richard from Sheffield are both examples of what happens when students are not prepared to answer the challenges of the evolutionists. It is not enough to say that you simply believe. Peter tells us clearly to have a reason for the hope that is in you. To be effective in a world hostile to God, that reason that you have must be able to give answers to the evolutionists’ stories. Jesus tells us to worship God with our mind as well as our heart and our soul, Matthew 22:37.
