One Thing Leads to Another
Rebellion against God seldom occurs full-blown; it is most often a gradual process that eats away at a person or organization like a cancer until there is spiritual death. Such spiritual cancer can be seen in a recent quote from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, “I think creationism is . . . a kind of category mistake, as if the Bible were a theory like other theories . . . if creationism is presented as a stark alternative theory alongside other theories I think there’s just a jarring of categories.” What the Archbishop fails to recognize is that the teaching of Biblical Creation is teaching the facts of the Bible, science and history.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is the leader of the Church of England, the mother church of all Anglican and Episcopal denominations around the world. The Church of England is the church that supplied the translators for the King James Bible. It is a church that at one time sent missionaries around the world preaching the gospel. It is also the church that allowed Charles Darwin to be buried with honors at Westminster Abbey.
The cancer of compromise in the Church of England followed the same path that so many organizations in America have gone down, compromise a little, then compromise a lot. The Church of England first accepted an old age for the earth, then it taught that the first eleven chapters of Genesis were not historical, but only allegorical. After that it was almost inevitable that the Episcopal Church in America ordained a practicing homosexual as a bishop. We see the same thing happening elsewhere in America. Navigator Press, an organization that at one time promoted the truth of the Bible, now promotes the compromises of Progressive Creationist Hugh Ross. Churches that today are members of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, an organization that promotes abortion, such as the Episcopal Church and the United Church of Christ didn’t start out that way. The United Church of Christ is the historical, though certainly not spiritual, descendant of the Pilgrims and Puritans. The UCC has sunk so low that it uses anti-Christian TV commercials to promote their denomination. They did not start out denying God, but they did succumb to the gradual cancer of denying just a little bit of the Bible, than just a little bit more.
The Archbishop of Canterbury and all those seek to promote compromise of the Bible deliberately ignore the fact that the Bible makes specific factual
statements about the world. The Bible states that God made every creature after its own kind and that He made all the land animals, including dinosaurs, on the same day that He made people. Evolutionists claim that animals have been evolving for millions of years from one kind to another and that dinosaurs evolved millions of years before people. Both stories cannot be true. Compromisers like to pretend that the Bible and evolutionism are pursuing different agendas, but that is not so. Both claim to tell the truth about the world, the real question is which story fits the facts.
Why It Matters
The most important question in the world is this, is the Bible really God’s Word? All true science supports the Bible. Genetics tell us that animals cannot change from one kind to another. The fossil record shows us that they have not. Archaeological evidence shows that humans and dinosaurs coexisted for thousands of years after the Flood. What evolutionists and compromisers are really afraid of is that when the evidence is fairly examined the evolutionist story will be seen to be nothing more than the smoke and mirrors that it is.
