God Hates Compromise
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold or hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Revelation 3: 15-16
Project CREATION receives mail from Christians who say that the Bible is to be used only as a spiritual guide, that it canít be trusted as an historical record. A common statement from them is that it is not important how or when God created, but only that He is the Creator. They couldnít be more wrong. The most important question is the reliability and authority of Scripture. If God lied to us in the first verses of Genesis, and that is really what all compromisers are saying, then when did He begin to tell us the truth? God would not only have had to deceive us in Genesis, but Jesus would have had to continue that deception throughout His time on earth, because Jesus quoted from Genesis more than from any other book in the Old Testament. Distorting the message of the Bible is the inevitable result of compromise.
Jesus never condoned any sin, but He reserved His harshest criticism for those who compromised Godís Word with their own ideas. Jesus spoke of the Pharisees as a generation of vipers (Matthew 23: 33) and graves (Luke 11: 44) because they put their ideas above the clear words of God. In the Church today the results of compromise are both clear and tragic. So many people in the Church have tried to be so accommodating to the world, that to many people, both inside the Church and outside of it, the Church has become irrelevant. Why should the world treat a book seriously when those who say they believe it donít. One result of compromise is seen in the loss of so many young people from the Church. A study by Campus Crusade for Christ has shown that over 85% of the teenagers in the Church today will be unchurched by the time they are 25.
Just as with the Pharisees, the modern day compromisers loudly proclaim their devotion to the Bible, but then set out to undermine its authority. Whether calling themselves Theistic Evolutionists, Progressive Creationists or believers in the Gap Theory, they have one thing in common. While claiming to believe in the inerrancy of Scripture they promote a theology that will usually include a Big Bang occurring billions of years ago, a local or non-existent Flood and death in the world long before the sin of Adam and Eve. They buy into almost every evolutionary speculation, merely adding that God did it in some fashion. Because they loudly proclaim their belief in the Bible they have fooled many Christians into believing in their compromises.
While there are parts of the Bible that honest Christians of can have legitimate differences about, there are many areas where God has spoken in such a way that it is clear what is meant. One of those areas is the length of the Creation period. In Genesis 1:5b, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31 and Exodus 20:11 God tells us that Creation took six ordinary days. He tells us that Creation was instant, He spoke and it happened. These two facts alone eliminate the possibility of long ages, which is the bedrock of all compromise stories. The measure of truth is the Bible, not clever storytelling. What the Word of God tells us is what we are to believe and to proclaim to the world.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
